What Are Tourist Attractions?

Tourist attractions are diversified and multilayered as people visit places towards which ’the tourist gaze’ has not been directed. In this course, analyses are applied to new currents of tourism from perspectives including sociology and cultural/media studies of tourism.

Contemporary Japan

This is a survey course on contemporary Japanese society for undergraduate students who are broadly interested in Japan. We will examine the cultural and social contexts of pertinent issues in contemporary Japan, primarily using qualitative ethnographic studies.

The purpose of this class is two-fold: 1) to learn the histories and changes of East Asian media and popular culture, focusing on China, Japan and Korea, 2) how do East Asians receive and consume other popular cultures.

Logic : Introduction to Logic

Logic is a basic tool for evaluating a reasoning. A given reasoning may be evaluated in terms of truth of a sentence or correctness of the use of logical vocabulary. From these two perspectives, this course provides basics of propositional, first-order and modal logics.
